On
October 6, Austin Maho, prominent Nigerian media expert and Editor-in-Chief of Daybreak
Newspaper, alongside Jiang Xuan, Chief Correspondent of People's Daily of China
in Western Africa, visited the MCG International Media Center for an in-depth
training and exchange session focused on media strategy and external
communications. The session brought together MCG’s media team, company executives, and senior departmental staff from
Abuja, emphasized practical skills in communication and media engagement.
Austin Maho, well-known in Nigeria’s media landscape, has held top editorial
roles at The Pilot, Urban News, and Mines News, and is a regular advisor on
media strategy to both government and private sectors. His training, titled “Understanding the Media and Making It
Work for You,” delved into the nuances of media relations, spotlighting best
practices and key challenges in public communications. Through a mix of
lectures, case studies, and interactive Q&A, Maho shared actionable
insights on effective media engagement and provided strategies to address the
unique challenges faced by today’s communicators.
Ajuma, a voice-over artist at MCG, praised
the session, saying, “Combining lectures with interactive Q&A gave me a clearer view
of the media's influence on public opinion and crisis response. Although some
technical terms were challenging, the training broadened my perspective.
Applying these skills to my daily work will certainly enhance my effectiveness.”
The session saw not only MCG’s media professionals gaining fresh
insights but also strengthened inter-departmental collaboration as other
attendees from across the company took away valuable lessons. This engagement
with two seasoned media figures has set a solid foundation for enhancing MCG’s media capabilities, underscoring its
commitment to strategic communications.
