Beijing’s Economic-Technological Development Area, or E-town, has build a underground sewage treatment plant .This is the first phase of the plant, and will have a daily processing capacity of 20,000 tons to support industrial development over a 12-square-kilometer space, with an improved sludge disposal process. It has a water extractor and can raise the sludge moisture content from 60 to 80 percent, greatly reducing the sludge.

This plant differs from the previous two sewage facilities, with a more advanced treatment process and higher effluent quality, so the effluent can be used for grasslands, spraying roads or for producing high-quality reclaimed water. It can also be discharged directly into rivers.
