On June 30, witnessed by China's Minister of Transport Yang Chuantang and his Bangladeshi counterpart Obaidul Quader, Liu Qitao, chairman and Party secretary of CCCC and Khandker Anwarul Islam, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Communications of Bangladesh and director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority signed a business contract in Beijing for the project of the underwater tunnel of the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong, Bangladesh, with a contract value of 705 million US dollars.
Located in Chittagong, with a full length of 9,092 meters, the project is Bangladesh's first underwater tunnel connecting the east coast and west coast of the Karnaphuli River. After its completion, the project will greatly cement the connection between downtown Chittagong and the east coast of the Karnaphuli River, drive the economic construction of the east coast, and accomplish the coordinated economic development of "one city and two towns". As an important part of China-Bangladesh-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the project is also of great significance to perfecting Asia's highway network, promoting the interconnection between Bangladesh and its neighboring countries, and advancing the globalization of Bangladesh.
