ACHIEVEMENTS

Till 2013, China’s first-ever nuclear power plant, Qinshan nuclear power plant has maintained safe and stable operation for 23 year, according to asymposium held by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC). During the past more than two decades, Qinshan nuclear power plant, situated not far away from Shanghai, has caused no accidents that either endangered human safety or impacted the environment, and all its nuclear radiation indicators are not beyond the background radiation levels of the natural environment. From December, 1991 when it started operation to October 2011, the Qinshan nuke generated 40.5 billion KWh of electricity, equivalent to saving 16 million tons of standard coal, or cutting 40 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions and 1.2 million tons of sulfur dioxide emissions.

A photovoltaic power plant in Northwest China featuring integration of solar- and hydro-power generation started grid connection and trial operations on December 4, 2013.The 320MW hydro-solar project near the Longyangxia Dam in Qinghai Province is the largest hydro-solar project in the world to date. The plant will work in conjunction with the existing 1.28 GWLongyangxia Hydro Power Station. Bycombining hydropower generation, the station will be able to address the lack of stability in grid connection, a problem plaguing many photovoltaic plants that operate in the daytime and hinge their efficiency on weather conditions. The project began construction in March and is expected to deliver an annual 498 million kilowatt-hours onto the grid.
